La historia gira en torno a dos hermanos vampiros que, tan opuestos como perseverantes, luchan por seducir a la joven Elena Gilbert. Los tres protagonizan la serie 'Crónicas vampíricas' y forman un apasionado triángulo amoroso.
Basada en la exitosa serie de novelas de la escritora L.J. Smith (editadas en España por Destino), “Crónicas vampíricas” está producida por un especialista en la televisión y el cine para el público joven, Kevin Williamson, cuyas producciones se cuentan por éxitos de audiencia y taquilla: "Dawson crece" en televisión, "Scream" y "Sé lo que hicisteis el último verano" en la gran pantalla. Williamson está acompañado en la producción por Julie Plec ("Kyle XY", "Wasteland"), Leslie Morgenstein ("Gossip Girl", "Private") y Bob Levy ("Gossip Girl", "Privileged").
